January and February for powder chasing, driven by the northern Japan and continental storm cycles. March and April for touring, when the snowpack stabilises, the days lengthen, and the classic high routes and hut traverses become viable.

June to October in the north. The southern hemisphere August window is a real but small counter-season.

Guided traverses and hut spaces are booked six to twelve months ahead and sell out. Powder chasing is booked inside 72 hours of a forecast.
